Our story began in 2011, when founder and cold-water surfer Christian Dittrich faced a painful ear infection during a surf trip to Morocco.
The cause was Surfer’s ear, a common condition among those who spend their lives in cold water.
Unable to hear and surf for days, Christian realized how much hearing shapes our connection to the ocean.

Determined to find a better solution, he teamed up with fellow surfers, designers, and engineers to create an earplug that could block water without blocking sound.
After countless prototypes and cold-water tests, SurfEars was born, the first truly vented earplug that lets you hear, feel, and perform naturally in the water.

Since the first version launched in 2014, we’ve continuously refined the design to make SurfEars lighter, more comfortable, and more durable.
Today, our unique, design-patented shape reflects more than a decade of engineering, testing, and real-world use in demanding ocean conditions.
